The Park Rapids School Board on June 6 approved bread, milk and pizza bids for 2022-23 food service.

Pan O’Gold won the bread bid. The only company to bid with Bimbo Bakeries declining based on capacity, Pan O’Gold offered $8.50 for 60 hamburger buns (up 25% from 2021-22), $1.75 for 12 hot dog buns (up 21.5%), $8.54 for 48 steak buns (up $48.3%) and $1.65 for a single loaf of bread (up 25%).

Cass Clay Dairy won the milk bid with 29.4 cents per half-pint carton of 1% milk, 85 cents for lactose free skim, 27.8 cents for white skim and 30.1 cents for fat free chocolate milk.

Based on anticipated quantities of 9,500 cartons of skim, 90,000 of 1%, 150,000 of chocolate, 1,100 of lactose free and 80 half-gallon cartons of whole milk at $2.89 each, Cass Clay’s bid totaled $75,386 for the year. This was $7,063 less than Prairie Farms’ total bid of $82,449.

Rocky’s Pizza was the sole pizza bidder due to Pizza Hut and Pizza Ranch declining to bid. Rocky’s offered $22 for a 16-inch pizza cut into eight slices.

Business Manager Kent Fritze noted that the district received no pizza bids last year.

According to a report presented to the school board, all bidders included an escalator clause due to potential cost increases.

Lunch prices will remain the same for 2022-23, with the exception of milk, the report states, at $2.40 for grades K-4, $2.50 for 5-8, $2.70 for 9-12, $4.35 for adults and 50 cents for milk. Breakfast prices are also holding steady at $1.55 for K-4, $1.80 for 5-12 and $2.50 for adults.
