Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley has officially announced that he will reprise his role as Trevor Slattery in the upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man. Kingsley has previously played Trevor Slattery, a failed actor, in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Ben Kingsley’s ongoing role as Trevor Slattery is a complicated one, even inside the complicated and ever-expanding world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Trevor first appeared in Iron Man 3 (2013) as the Mandarin, the leader of the terrorist group known as the Ten Rings; however, by the end of the movie, it was revealed that Trevor was only an actor hired to play the Mandarin, and the real identity of the Mandarin would remain unknown until Trevor appeared again in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings would re-establish the Ten Rings as an ancient organization headed by Xu Wenwu, who discovered that the rings grant their holder immortality and great power. Throughout the film, Wenwu’s son Shaun discovers Trevor Slattery being held captive for the crime of impersonating Wenwu, who had broken Trevor out of prison and kept him alive as a court jester of sorts. Trevor agrees to help Shaun and his entourage and thus completes his transition to the side of good, despite having started as a villain in his first appearance.

Ben Kingsley will make his next appearance as Trevor Slattery in Wonder Man. According to Deadline, he follows Simon Williams, the wealthy heir to a disgraced company, as he seeks out MCU villain Baron Zemo for employment. Zemo gives Williams ionic-related superpowers and transforms him into the eponymous Wonder Man, who, like Trevor, begins as an adversary to the heroes of the MCU but later joins the cause.

Trevor Slattery’s exact role in Wonder Man is currently unknown, but Variety reports that Ben Kingsley’s very presence as Trevor means that Wonder Man is intended to be a “Hollywood satire,” given Trevor’s role as a failed actor and Wonder Man’s role as an actor and stuntman in his comics. Wonder Man will also reunite Ben Kingsley with Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton, who will executive produce Wonder Man. Andrew Guest and Cretton serve as the show’s co-creators, with Guest doubling as the head writer.

Additional information on the cast or plot of Wonder Man is currently unavailable, but it has been confirmed that the show will be premiering on Disney+, as per the platform’s usual agreement with Marvel.
